Hi All,

Had a small bump just before xmas which resulted in a graze on the near side front wing and bumper. Got the car back from the bodyshop a few days ago only to find that the sensors aren't working. They activate when pressing the button or going into reverse and make a single loud beep, however that is all they do. The light on the switch flashes but I can't remember if this is normal or not.

I took it back to the bodyshop yesterday (took an hour to do 15 miles because of all that b****y snow!!) only for them to tell me that they couldn't rectify the fault and I'd have to take it to the Main Dealer, despite the fact that it was working prior to the repair being carried out.

They suggested that there might be a reset sequence, you know the sort of thing where you hold down the button, press the brake pedal and twiddle some other knob whilst turning the ignition key with your teeth!!

Can anyone help? Is there a reset sequence or am I going to have to visit the main dealer and pay him

From the owners manual......

A system fault will be indicated via a tone when activated for the first time

and by the warning lamp flashing in the button. Switch the system off at the

button and have it checked by a qualified dealership as soon as possible.

If you have access to Vagcom you should be able to do the diagnostics yourself assuming you have given up with the bodyshop.

I'll bet that the plug has come off the back of a sensor. You can check if any are working by putting your finger on it - or your ear close up to it and you can actually feel it pulsing.

Worth a look/try.

I have the basic vag com and lead to check it if you are ever near Wellingborough, this will tell which one is faulty - but not exactly what the fault is.

Check all the connections, sounds to me like the body shop may have disturbed them while doing th repair. As above, Vag-COM will tell you which one is faulty. Let us know where you are as many of us have vag-com and are willing to help.

hi,when i had a problem with my sensors the light flashed.the way i checked was by putting my ear to each sensor if they are working you will hear a clicking noise if not the sensor is broke.remember to turn sensors on to check, good luck.

HY had the same problem with my car If you put the gear lever in reverse and turn on the ignition you can then put your ear close to each sensor and listen to them tick if one is not ticking it might be a broken wire to that sensor or the sensor is faulty mine was a broken wire which I fixed myself no problem.

Hi All,

Many thanks to the tip about listening, found fault within minutes. Waiting now till rain goes then straight under car to see if its a wiring fault.
